March 8th, 2009

Well, guess what? The SD3 decided enough was enough and they were born on March 6th, 2009. That would mean the triplets were born on 3-6-9!

On Friday (exactly 27 weeks), Shara was having a great day. As she was taking a nap, and so was her Mom, so I went out to the lobby to do some work. A little later, Shara's Mom came out to tell me that Shara felt a gush of water. This was at about 5:15pm. At about 5:30pm the doctor checked her and noticed that some of Baby A's cord looked to have slipped down the cervix. Because of that, they rushed Shara to surgery and at 6:22pm, 6:23pm, and 6:23pm Drew, Julia and Madison were born!

It was almost a week and a half from when Shara's water first broke, so we feel blessed we had lasted as long as we did.

The babies are in the NICU, and are doing well. Drew is 1lbs 15oz, Julia is 1lbs 14oz, and Madison is 1lbs 12oz. They are quite small but seem strong. They are all off the ventilator, in fact Drew is not using anything to help breathing for now, and Julia and recently Madison are using a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine. This is a device that goes into their noses to be able to give their breathing a little nudge. Drew has started to feed, and hopefully the others will be soon as well. We know it will be a roller coaster ride, but there's no place we would rather be.

We have moved to the next phase of the SD3's journey a little faster than we expected, but we are so excited and hope you stay along for the ride!!

Yay! That is amazing no ventilator.. CPAP is the most annoying thing ever (that beeping will drive you insane!) but it's great for the baby. I am so happy for the both of you. Take it from someone who had their child at 28 weeks.. they amaze you at how strong they are.. All three will pull through and before you know it will be home in your arms.. Congrats and best wishes to you both!!
